Regional Conference Edition
January Monthly Newsletter

Greetings!

Allow me to thank all of you for your outstanding work over the past year. I trust all had a wonderful Christmas with your families. I also trust everybody is looking forward to a wonderful and prosperous new year. I know some of you had to work over the holidays as did I. I always find it interesting that no matter how many holidays you are taken away from family, we tend to adapt to it and make the best of it.

I would like to take a moment and give you a bit of a recap on the last board meeting held on December 12th. Knowing there was a significant deficit in the budget, some tough decisions had to be made to alleviate the deficit we had endured for the past few years. Perhaps the hardest was to eliminate the Education Coordinator position which had proved not to be self-sustaining as we had hoped. There were also some other significant eliminations for the 2019  budget which included doing away with sending a ND Contingent to the National EMS Expo. A second board meeting held on the 27th of December, and I am happy to report there is now a 2019 budget that does not have a deficit and was voted on and approved by the BOD's.

Other items discussed at the board meeting was advocacy items where two position papers were written. These papers give our stance on mandatory scheduling and the other on QRU's transporting patients. These position papers were sent back to Advocacy for some minor clean up (verbiage) and approved. Look for them when they get pushed out to the members.

The 2019 EMS Rendezvous is coming along nicely. We have some excellent speakers coming in, and I look forward to seeing all of you there. I know it will be a busy weekend. I will look forward to meeting and talking to many of you. Please when you see me, take the time to come over and say Hi! I would love to hear how things are going in your area.

Today is the deadline for nominations for regional officers and the Vice President. I hope some of you put in for a position in your region and if qualified put in for the VP. The list of candidates will be published on the website soon. Good luck to those that have put their names in the hat!

In closing, I would like to say always to remember your patients, treat them to the best of your ability, train hard and as always...STAY SAFE!!!

Happy New Year ND EMS!!!

Get All Your NCCR Hours in 2 Regional Conferences!

 Starting with the Southwest Region Conference in Medora, all four regions will follow a set pattern of NCCR hours offered at each conference.  This pattern will allow members to plan their 2- year training a little easier.

EMTs can meet all of their NCCR hours in a couple of ways:

  • Attend the same regional conference 2 years in a row; or
  • Attend opposite regional conferences in one year (one from Track A and one from Track B);
  • Go to one regional conference and the state conference.

From the Northwest President,

The 2019 Northwest Region EMS Conference is scheduled for January 19-20, 2019 at the Grand Hotel in Minot.  The Friday night, January 18, pre-conference event sponsored by Trinity Health in Minot begins with “The Las Vegas Shooting – What We Learned” at 6:00 pm.  Presenting this program is D. On Friday afternoon from 3:00 – 5:00 pm the SIM Truck will be available for SIM Sepsis Training for conference participants.  Conference participants must pre-register for this training as the number of participants is limited.

Saturday and Sunday of the conference offer a variety of NCCR and LCCR hours for participants.  A complete listing of the courses offered is available on the NDEMSA website at ndemsa.org.

On Saturday evening, January 19, from 7:00-9:00, will be an ALS and BLS Team Competition.  Squads, bring your 2-3 person ALS or BLS team to compete against other squads with Medical Scenarios.  Be the first to take home the annual trophy!  No preregistration is required.  Ambulance squads are encouraged to bring more than one team.
