As part of the Rural EMS Counts project, the North Dakota EMS Association will host monthly sessions for EMS providers to discuss current topics, questions, concerns and successes with each other. By beginning to meet on a regular basis, we hope to encourage a community of practice.
A community of practice is people who share a vocation, concern, or passion for something they do, and learn how to do it better by interacting on a regular basis (Lave & Wenger 1991). The concept is not a new and you already be a part of one. Examples would be Toastmasters, a bible study group, or farmers having coffee at Cenex to talk about crops.
By coming together every month as EMS stakeholders, we hope to foster learning and sharing through conversations and storytelling. By sharing knowledge, our eyes can be opened to ways others operate and have solved the exact same problem we are having. By sharing questions, we can learn areas that need more attention. By sharing concerns, we will know what is needed..
So stay tuned for monthly call invitations coming soon.
