10 - 15 minute introduction covering de-escalation, the dangers involved, strength in numbers, weapons, showing respect etc. The rest of the session will be hands-on practice with partners escaping from grabs, choke holds & scenarios the attendees may want to explore.
1045-1200 Psychological Trauma & Suicide in EMS- Dr. Chris Caulkins
What you don't know can kill you. An explanation of the causes and mechanisms of psychological trauma and suicidality among EMS personnel. Dr. Caulkins will highlight the importance of mental health awareness and psychological risks to EMS responders.

This session will cover the different medications used in behavioral health emergencies.
1600-1700 Resources for EMS agencies and Peer Support – A Panel Discussion
The presenters and the NDEMSA Mental Health Committee members will talk Mental Health resources and what is occurring across the state. The ND EMS Association’s Committee will give an update on the current projects. Come prepared to engage in discussion about how we as EMS leaders can tackle these challenges.
