North Dakota EMS Association Response to Testimony on SB 2033
The North Dakota EMS Association (ND EMSA) is deeply concerned by the recent testimony presented during the House Human Services Committee Hearing on SB 2033, specifically the claim that our Association is predominantly composed of larger, private service providers, with limited representation from smaller services. This statement is factually inaccurate and does not reflect the diversity of our membership.
The ND EMSA has been advocating for EMS professionals across the state since 1976, and our association is made up of 1,630 members who represent a wide range of services, from rural volunteer agencies to larger urban providers. Our leadership reflects this commitment to inclusivity. Of our 16 Regional Directors, 10 represent rural and smaller EMS services. Additionally, our President and Secretary-Treasurer are both from rural areas, further demonstrating our commitment to ensuring the voices of small and rural services are heard at the state level.
Our Advocacy Committee works tirelessly to ensure that the voices of all our members, regardless of the size or location of their services, are heard in the halls of state government. Whether it’s at the local or state level, our committee is dedicated to connecting with elected officials to advocate for the needs of EMS professionals and the communities they serve. This effort includes attending hearings, meeting with legislators, and rallying support for policies that impact EMS providers of all sizes. We are committed to working with our lawmakers to ensure that every EMS service has a seat at the table and that their concerns are addressed in the legislative process.
The ND EMSA exists to support and promote the essential work of all EMS providers in North Dakota, regardless of their size or location. We believe that EMS services of all types play a critical role in the health and safety of our communities, and we are proud to represent a diverse group of EMS professionals across the state. Our advocacy ensures that every voice, whether from a small rural volunteer agency or a larger urban provider, is heard and valued.
We encourage all stakeholders to engage in a productive, informed dialogue regarding SB 2033 and the future of EMS in North Dakota, with a clear understanding of the broad and diverse makeup of our Association.
Sincerely,
Cheryl Flick
