North Dakota Emergency Medical Services Association

NDEMSA

   October                 Newsletter

From the President

The success of the North Dakota EMS Association depends largely on the involvement of its individual members.  As your representative EMS organization here in North Dakota our goals include lobbying our legislature to create positive changes in communities across our state; holding conferences that reach larger audiences and offer educational value to providers at every level; providing training for new EMS leaders as well as much much more.  Your membership in NDEMSA builds that success.  We are very proud of the influence we have on EMS in North Dakota.  Please consider helping make those things happen by renewing your NDEMSA membership.

That positive change is also contingent on active participation within the association.  The North Dakota EMS Association Board of Directors is led by interested and active individuals.  The work that they do as well as the time, talents, and energy they bring to the table helps make us a great organization.  NDEMSA is currently accepting applications for officers and directors.  The deadline to submit a nomination for a position it December 31, 2017.  Once received, that information is posted on the website so that everyone has a chance to see who's running before they cast their ballot in February.

Information on Phase II of the 2017 North Dakota EMS Assistance Grants will be coming out soon.  Agencies that have a significant financial need should consider applying for the funds.  When you get the application please read through the material thoroughly.  We understand that the process is not a perfect situation for every service that applies, but the funds will help meet a significant number of EMS needs across our state.  We do want to thank the DEMS staff for putting a great deal of time into developing this grant.  If you have any questions on the grant application or the application process please contact the ND Division of EMS at 701-328-2388.

We are pleased to announce that the Leadership Academy is returning to North Dakota.  DEMS has scheduled the four levels of leadership this year to allow providers the opportunity to attend or continue attending one of the four leadership levels.

Level 1 – October 12-13, 2017           From Management to Leadership Of An Organization

            Level 2 – October 14-15, 2017           Showing Up As A Leader

Level 3 – December 7-8, 2017           Moving Your Organization Forward

            Level 4 – December 9 & 10, 2017     Your Specific Role and Challenges

This is an excellent opportunity for your Service Director or those in a leadership role (don't forget Medical Directors and Board Members) to network with other squad leaders and learn more about guiding your agency in to the future.  All of the sessions will be held in Bismarck, ND.  Additional course information can be found on the North Dakota EMS Association website at http://ndemsa.org.  Please consider signing up for one or more of the four outstanding sessions.

I want to say thank-you to everyone that came out to the North Dakota EMS Association Southwest Conference in Medora September 29 – October 01, 2017.  We appreciate all of the providers who gave their time and attention.  Not only is this is a beautiful venue to hold the session, but the Directors and Staff did an excellent job putting together a superb weekend of fun and education.  We extend our thanks to everyone who had a role in putting together the southwest regional conference.

NDEMSA will be sponsoring three additional regional conferences after the 1st of the year.  These weekend conferences will offer a great mix of NCCR and LCCR education.  Upcoming dates for the regional conferences are:

            January 12-14, 2018   Jamestown, ND

            January 26-28, 2018   Minot, ND

February 16-18, 2018 Grand Forks, ND

Don't forget to mark your calendar for the 43rd Annual NDEMSA Rendezvous Conference & Tradeshow April 12-14, 2018 in Bismarck, ND.  Please check the NDEMSA website at http://ndemsa.org for updates and information on these and other upcoming EMS educational opportunities.

I look forward to seeing you at an upcoming NDEMSA event.  Thank you for what you do in your community every day!

Jim Restemayer, President

North Dakota EMS Association

How to Become a Candidate

The new process has nominations beginning July 1, 2017.  Interested candidates will be required to submit a nomination statement and photo to be published in the winter Response Time and on social media sites. Nominations are due on or before December 31, 2017. This deadline allows for adequate time for candidates’ biography to be shared on NDEMSA news outlets prior to voting. Please review the new Nomination and Election Rules effective this year. In following election policies, nominations are NOT accepted from the floor during the annual meeting.

To submit a nomination statement and picture, please email it to ndemsa.office@ndemsa.org.

The Voting Process

As of 2017, regional directors’ nominations and elections will no longer be held at the regional meetings. The election will be held between February 19 and March 4th, immediately after the Northeast Regional Conference. Voting will occur through a combination of online and mail voting methods, as determined by the board of directors. A four-person committee will count the votes. The committee will consist of an election chair and three additional appointed people.

If you have any questions about the voting process please contact the office at 701-221-0567 or visit our nominations and elections page on our website. It is hoped that this change in policy will get more interested individuals that have been unable to attend conference to run for a position and also have an opportunity to vote.

Silent Auction Items needed

The annual EMS Rendezvous is still several months away but we are already working on the silent auction.  This year the money raised will help pay for the 4th Annual Management Conference that will benefit EMS personnel across our state.

We are looking for ambulance services or individuals willing to donate items for the auction.  We are hoping that services will put together a “Theme Basket” that is filled with items donated from their community.

If you are interested in donating you can contact:
