Dear Association Members,

With spring coming quickly so is the final planning of the EMS Rendezvous.  The conference committee just recently met in Bismarck to do a walk through of the Event Center and put the final edits on the combined Response Time magazine and Rendezvous brochure.  You should be seeing the February issue arrive within the next ten days.  We also have two winter regional conferences in our rear-view mirror and only have the NE Region Conference ahead.  The past couple months have just flown by!  Soon we'll be putting the 41st Annual Rendezvous behind us as well.  NDEMSA, in partnership with DEMST, AHA, and other stakeholders are conducting "Future of EMS in North Dakota" meetings throughout the state.  I hope you are able to join us in Dickinson on March 1st or at one of the other seven meetings that will be held.  We look forward to seeing many EMS stakeholders at these meetings to share some of the challenges and discuss how to move EMS into the future.

Thank you,

Curt Halmrast, President
NDEMSA

The first meeting will be held in Dickinson on March 1st.  The dates and locations for the other 7 other “Future of EMS in North Dakota” meetings will be announced at a later date.

The 2016 SE Conference Recap

The SW Conference held January 30-31st, 2016. The conference kicked off on Friday with a hands on training done by Jamestown Ambulance. High school students played patients as audience participants tended to them.

77 people signed up for Saturday and Sunday.  Thank you to Sanford AirMed, Alpha Medical, Sanford Education, ND DES. AFLAC, Pure Country, and Ringdahl EMS for being vendors.  SIM ND did simulations on Labor & Delivery and Anhydrous Burns on Saturday and Sunday.

Thank you Jamestown Ambulance, Reuben Farnsworth, Ron Lawler, Laurie Hill, Tammy Roerich, Jenny Iverson, Tom Taylor. Vikki Berreth, and Tom Nehring for presenting at the regional conference. Everyone did a wonderful job and we appreciate the education.

At the SE meeting, Vicki Berreth of Ringdahl Ambulance and Loretta Haas from Napoleon Ambulance terms were up for the SE Region Board of Directors. Vicki Berreth decided to step down to pursue other endeavors. She still plans on being active on the board. NDEMSA thanks you for your 20 years of service. We appreciate everything you do.

Three people ran for the 2 open spots. Loretta Haas from Napoleon Ambulance was reelected. For the other open position, it was a very close race which resulted in a tie. After the recount, Jason Eblen from FM Ambulance won.  Congratulations Jason and Loretta!

Dates for next years conference will be decided at a later date.

North Dakota EMS Awards Nominations

The North Dakota EMS Association is proud to sponsor an awards program that highlights the accomplishments of so many dedicated EMS providers in North Dakota.  We hope you or your agency will consider recognizing the very best of North Dakota’s EMS providers with a regional or statewide award.

The 2016 regional awards include: Siren Award, Rising Star Award, Telecommunications Award, and the Service of the Year Award.  One regional Service of the Year nominee is chosen for the state EMS Service of the Year.

The statewide awards for 2016 include: Media Award, Distinguished Service, Medical Director of the Year, Grace Knapp Award, and EMS Provider of the Year Award.

The Table of Honor Ceremony pays tribute to those volunteers and career EMS/Fire personnel who are no longer with us.  You can help us honor that person by nominating them for the Table of Honor Ceremony.  The first twelve Table of Honor nominations will be chosen.

The deadline for all awards is March 1, 2016.  The awards committee reviews the submissions, and notifies the nominator (not the nominee) whether or not their submission was chosen.  This will allow those who did win an award to make plans to attend the 2016 EMS Rendezvous Awards Banquet and Table of Honor Ceremony on Saturday evening, April 9, 2016 in Bismarck.

The simple two-sided form listing the criteria and nomination information for both the regional and statewide awards and the one-page form for the Table of Honor Ceremony can be found on our website at www.ndemsa.org under the “Awards Programs” tab. You can submit your nominations via online, mail, email, fax, or hand delivery to our office in Bismarck.

March 10th NDEMSA Board Meeting

The ND EMS Association will hold their next quarterly board meeting on Thursday, March 10th at the Ramada Bismarck (1400 East Interchange Ave.). The meeting will begin at 12:30pm.  All are welcome to attend.

The agenda for March 10th will be posted to our website 30 days prior to the meeting date along with proposed language for a bylaw change to Article V Board of Directors in Section 2 - Term of Office.  A language change of when directors will begin and end their terms of office.  The proposal is to change regional director starting terms from the regional conferences to late February or early March when online and mail voting ends and election results have been verified.  Newly elected regional directors would take office roughly a month before the annual conference and NDEMSA officers terms would still start and/or terminate after old business at the annual meeting, which does not change.  For questions in regards to the meeting or agenda please call (701-221-0567) or email (ndemsa.office@ndemsa.org) our office.

Statewide Interoperable Radio Network 20/20 Feasibility  Study
February 16 – 26, 2016 Outreach Conferences

The SIRN Working Group, SIEC and Televate, LLC are hosting Regional Outreach Conferences to conduct
outreach to and obtain feedback on the evolution of mission critical voice communications from
stakeholders across the State. As most of you are aware, the SIEC is spearheading a Study to assess the
feasibility of a Statewide Interoperable Radio Network (or SIRN). These Regional Conferences are a key
element of the Study: An open forum to discuss the state of radio communications and collectively devise potential technical and operational solutions for radio communications solutions that serve all entities in
the State of North Dakota.

Topics Will Includ
e:
 Brief Overview of SIRN 20/20 and Study
 Technical Requirements for Future Systems
 Current Gaps that Need to Be Addressed
 State of Local and State Radio Systems
 Thoughts on Integrated Statewide Solutions
 Adoption of the System Statewide
 Funding and Governance Solutions

We would like to invite individuals within your County – public safety agency leaders, communications
managers, executives and other key stakeholders - that are interested in these topics and would like toprovide their feedback. Our objective for these sessions is to foster open dialogue with the stakeholder community, and encourage counties to share their thoughts among each other on these issues rather than simply deliver program information.

Our goal is to host two three-hour session each day within each of the 8 “anchor cities” to foster broad participation as per the daily schedule below. The proposed allocation of slots are preliminary; all slots are open to all counties, particularly if your scheduled time does not work for you. We request, however, due to potential space limitations, that you invite between 5 and 8 people to represent your County. If the allocated time does not work for you and you would like to attend a different session, please let us know.

Please support us in identifying and coordinating individuals with your County. We have a Contacts
Database for North Dakota and can help with contact information as well.
